Privacy Policy

SideLine (“SideLine,” “we,” “us”) provides live scores, play-by-play, schedules, rosters, and player stats for school sports. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: .
1. What we collect
- Account information. Your email address, a password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never readable by us), and the display name you choose.
- Chat. Messages you post in game chat, the game they were posted in, your display name, and the time. Reports and moderation actions (such as deleted messages and bans).
- Team information, entered by team creators. Team name, sport, level, city, logo, schedule, and roster. A roster entry is a jersey number, a player’s name (optional), and positions. We do not ask for photos of people, birth dates, grades, addresses, phone numbers, or contact details of players.
- Game data. Scores, plays, and player statistics entered by a team’s scorekeeper.
- Teams you follow. If you follow a team, we save that choice to your account (or, if you aren’t signed in, only in your browser). Teams can see how many followers they have, not who they are.
- Scorekeeper invitations. A team creator can enter another person’s email address to let them score that team’s games. We store that address with the team until the creator removes it or the team is deleted. We don’t send emails to it.
- Roles and profile details. Which roles your account has (coach, scorekeeper, player, parent or guardian, recruiter), and for recruiters their school or program, title, and program website. An optional contact email and phone number, if you add them in Settings. Phone numbers are not verified by us.
- Player profiles. A profile has a name, graduation year, an optional “about” note, the teams and sports the player is linked to, and links to videos. A profile for a child is created and controlled by a parent or guardian. We store which accounts are a child’s guardians and who a profile has been shared with.
- Messages. Messages between users, who took part, the sender’s role and team or program, and any blocks or reports. Parents and guardians can read conversations that include their child.
- Who entered what. For each play we keep which account entered it and when, and a log of important actions such as certifying a game, reopening it to fix a stat, claiming a roster spot, or changing who can see a profile.
- Sign-in sessions. The devices and sessions you are signed in on, so you can sign out of them.
- Technical data. Our hosting and database providers automatically process things like IP address, device and browser type, and request logs to deliver the service and keep it secure.
2. How we use it
- To run the service: sign you in, show games, rosters, and stats, and power live updates and chat.
- To keep SideLine safe: enforce chat rules, prevent abuse and spam, and respond to reports.
- To communicate with you about your account, such as email confirmation and password resets, and important service notices.
- To improve reliability and fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not show advertising or use your information for advertising.
3. What is public
SideLine is built to be viewed by anyone, including people without accounts. The following are public: team names, logos, schedules, scores, plays and statistics; rosters (jersey numbers and positions, and player names unless the team has chosen to show numbers only); your display name and messages in game chat. Your email address is never shown to other users. Please don’t put personal information in your display name or in chat.
Player profiles are different. A profile is private by default. The player (or, for a middle school player, a parent or guardian) chooses one of three settings: private (only people invited), visible to recruiters and coaches, or anyone with the link. High school players make this choice themselves once their coach has approved them on a high school roster. Profiles of middle school players, which includes every player under 13 and any 13 to 17 year old not yet on a high school or college roster, stay private until a parent or guardian approves; after that a parent may make them visible to approved recruiters, but never to the general public. Contact details are shown only to the people you choose.
4. Information about student athletes
Players under 13 do not have accounts. A parent or guardian can create a profile for them, which stays private unless the parent or guardian approves showing it to approved recruiters. Players 13 to 17 can have an account only with a parent or guardian’s knowledge. A middle school player’s profile needs a parent or guardian’s consent before recruiters can see it; a high school player decides for themselves. A guardian is verified only by a confirmed email address, so please tell us if someone is acting as a guardian who should not be.
Many players on SideLine are minors. Rosters are entered by the team’s creator, who confirms that they are a coach, athletic director, or other staff member, or have their permission, and are allowed to share it. Team creators can choose to show jersey numbers only and hide player names. We only want names, numbers, and positions. Teams at the middle school level show jersey numbers only by default, and a team creator should turn names on only with permission from the school and families. If you are a player, parent, or guardian and want a name removed or a roster corrected, contact the team’s creator or contact us at and we will act promptly.
4A. Recruiters and who sees your stats
Recruiters have accounts that are reviewed before they can search. They can see only profiles that are set to be visible to recruiters, and only statistics from games marked Verified (or live-scored games a player chooses to share). They cannot see a coach’s private notes, any middle school profile that a parent or guardian has not approved, or contact details you have not chosen to share. A recruiter may save a player to a private list; the player or family can see that a recruiter viewed their profile, not the recruiter’s notes.
4B. Messaging
Messages are stored so that parents and guardians can read conversations that include their middle school child, and so that we can act on reports. In conversations with middle school players we block phone numbers, email addresses and links unless a parent chooses to share them. High school players use messages the same way adults do. Anyone can block or report a person or a conversation, and our administrators can read reported conversations. An administrator can switch messaging off for everyone at any time.
4C. Videos
A player can link videos hosted on YouTube, Vimeo or Hudl. We store the link and a title, not the video. The video site is a separate service with its own privacy policy and may collect information when you watch.
5. Children and age
SideLine accounts are for people 13 and older (accounts for 13 to 17 year olds are limited as described above). If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should know you are using SideLine. We do not knowingly collect account information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
6. Who we share data with
We use service providers to operate SideLine: a database, authentication, file storage, and realtime provider (Supabase), and a website hosting provider (Netlify). Fonts and code libraries are loaded from third-party content networks, which may see your IP address. These providers process data only to provide their services to us. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the service. If SideLine is ever transferred to another organization, we will tell you about changes to this policy.
7. How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is active. Game, schedule, and stat records stay on a team’s page until the team creator deletes the game or team. Deleting a team deletes its roster, schedule, games, and stats. Chat messages are removed when their game is deleted. Backups and logs may persist for a short period after deletion.
8. Your choices
- Team creators can edit or delete their team, roster, schedule, and games at any time, and can hide player names.
- You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your account and information by contacting .
- In Settings you can change who sees your contact details, stats and videos; sign out of other devices or every device; pick which notifications you want; and block people. Parents and guardians can change or withdraw sharing for their child at any time.
- You can sign out at any time and clear data stored in your browser. We store a small amount in your browser to keep you signed in, remember which role view you last used, and remember muted chat users.
9. Security
We use access controls so that only a team’s creator and the scorekeepers they invite can change its games, other roles see only the information that belongs to them, and we rely on reputable providers with encryption in transit. No online service is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. When we make important changes we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you on the site.
