Terms of Use
Last updated: October 21, 2026
These terms govern your use of SideLine, a website for live scores, stats, schedules, and rosters for school sports. By using SideLine or creating an account you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use SideLine.
1. Who can use SideLine
You must be at least 13 to have an account. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must know you are using SideLine and agree to these terms on your behalf. Players under 13 cannot have an account; a parent or guardian may create and manage a private profile for them. Creating a team requires that you are a coach, athletic director, or other staff member, or have their permission.
2. Account types and roles
One account can hold several roles: fan, coach, scorekeeper, player, parent or guardian, recruiter, and administrator. You can switch between them from the menu at the top, and each role shows only the information that belongs to it. Coach, player and parent roles are self-declared; you promise that what you say about yourself is true. Recruiter accounts are reviewed: an address ending in .edu that you have confirmed is approved automatically, and other addresses are approved by hand. We may remove a role or an account if the information given was false. A parent or guardian role lets you manage a child’s profile; you promise you are that child’s parent or legal guardian.
3. Your account
Keep your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account. Give us accurate information, and don’t create accounts to evade a ban.
4. Teams, rosters, and scoring
- When you create a team you confirm that you are allowed to share its schedule and roster, including the names of any minors on it, and that the information is accurate.
- Only the account that created a team (and SideLine administrators) can edit that team, its roster, and its schedule. The team creator can also add up to 5 scorekeepers by email address; a scorekeeper can score that team’s games but can’t edit or delete the team. Only add people you trust, and remove anyone who should no longer have access. Don’t share your login.
- Rosters should contain only jersey number, name, and position. Don’t add photos, birth dates, grades, addresses, phone numbers, or other personal details.
- If a school, league, or parent asks us to remove a player or team, we may do so promptly.
- You are responsible for the scores and stats you enter. Don’t enter false or misleading information.
- Team logos must be your own or you must have permission to use them. Don’t upload photos of people.
5. Chat rules
Be respectful. You may not post harassment, bullying, hate speech, threats, sexual content, or content that is illegal. Don’t share links, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personal information (yours or anyone else’s). Don’t spam or impersonate others. We use automated filters and may remove messages, mute or ban accounts, or report serious conduct to the appropriate authorities. Messages can be reported, and team creators can remove messages in their games.
6. Player profiles and videos
- A player has one profile across every sport and team. A player over 13 can claim a spot on a team’s roster; the team’s coach approves each claim, and stats from that team then count toward the profile.
- Profiles are private by default. High school players choose who sees their profile once their coach approves them on a high school roster. Middle school players (including everyone under 13) are never shown to recruiters unless a parent or guardian approves, and are never shown to the general public.
- Videos are links to YouTube, Vimeo or Hudl pages that you own or have permission to share. They must not show anything unsafe, explicit, or about someone else’s private life, and must not include personal contact details. We may hide a video or profile that is reported or that breaks these terms.
7. Recruiters
- Recruiters can search players who have chosen to be visible to recruiters. Recruiters see statistics only from games marked Verified, plus live-scored games when a player chooses to share them. They never see a coach’s private notes, a middle school profile that a parent or guardian has not approved, or contact details a player has not chosen to share.
- You may use what you see only to evaluate players for your own program. Don’t copy, sell, or publish it, and don’t contact a player outside SideLine after being declined.
- You may not message a middle school player directly. Your request goes to a parent or guardian, who decides whether a conversation starts. Follow the recruiting rules of your association (for example NCAA contact rules) when you contact any player.
- NCAA and other recruiting rules are your responsibility. SideLine does not give recruiting advice and does not guarantee any outcome.
8. Messaging and safety
- Messages are between people who have a reason to talk: a player and their coach, a player and a recruiter the player or family has accepted, and so on. Every message shows the sender’s role and team or program.
- Middle school players can only be messaged by their own coaches, and by recruiters after a parent approves; a parent or guardian can read every conversation that includes their child. High school players receive messages the same way adults do: as requests they can accept, decline or block.
- In any conversation that includes a middle school player, phone numbers, email addresses and links are not allowed. A parent can choose to share an email or phone number inside a conversation; sharing can be turned off at any time.
- No bullying, pressure, sexual content, gifts, or requests to move the conversation elsewhere. Anyone can block or report a person or a conversation. We limit how many new conversations an account can start, and we may suspend messaging for everyone at any time.
- If we believe a child may be at risk we may share relevant messages with the appropriate authorities.
9. How stats are marked
Every game is labeled Verified, Live-scored or Unverified. These labels are produced by automatic checks (for example, that plays were entered during the game and spread through it) and, for Verified, the coach’s certification that the stat sheet is accurate. A label is not a guarantee. Every play records which account entered it. After a game is final it is locked; the coach can reopen it to fix a mistake, which is logged with a reason and marks the game “Corrected”. Don’t try to avoid these checks.
10. Unofficial service; accuracy
SideLine is independent and unofficial. We are not affiliated with any school, league, or association unless a team’s page says so. Scores and stats are entered by volunteers and may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong. Official results are determined by the schools and leagues, not by SideLine.
11. No betting
SideLine is for fans and teams. Don’t use it to run, promote, or facilitate gambling or betting.
12. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give SideLine a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and distribute it as part of operating the service (for example, showing your team’s page and your chat messages to other users). You promise you have the right to post it.
SideLine’s own software, design, text, and branding belong to SideLine and its creator. You may not copy, resell, or repackage them without written permission.
13. Acceptable use
Don’t break the law, attempt to access other people’s accounts or data, interfere with or overload the service, scrape it at scale, or try to bypass its security or the limits on who can score a team’s games.
14. Fees
SideLine is free to use today. We may in the future charge a fee or subscription to create or maintain a team. If we do, we will tell you before you are charged, and you will not be charged without agreeing to it.
15. Removing content and ending access
We may remove content, suspend teams, or end accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. You can stop using SideLine at any time, and team creators can delete their teams.
16. Disclaimers
SideLine is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind. We don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will never be lost.
17. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SideLine and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the service or from content posted by users. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
18. Changes
We may update these terms. If you keep using SideLine after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. We will update the date above.
19. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE TO BE CONFIRMED], without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
